New year – new goals

In this post I’d like to share with you one thing that I do at the beginning of every year. I know I promised to write an article about the main motifs of Lili Zografu’s literary work but that can wait.

Evaluate previous year

At the beginning of the year I always think about the previous year. I take my notebook and I write everything I’m thankful for from the previous year, I write what I learnt, what I experienced, who I met and I’m thinking about what that person was supposed to teach me in my life, I just write everything that comes to my mind that was somehow meaningful in that year. I’m also trying to evaluate and review my goals I set. Evaluation is a worthwhile activity because it can help keep you honest about your efforts, it can reveal holes in your plans and it can inspire you to keep going when you notice even moderate results happening.

Learn from the past

I think it’s really important to look back to find out what you achieved but also where you failed, which mistakes you made because when you realize all these things then you can make it better next time. In this way you can learn a lot from your past experience.

Write your goals

Although much more significant thing what I do and what you should do as well is to write all of your goals for new year. Yes, you should write it down because it’s not enough if you just think about it. It has to be written on the paper.

If the goals are not written down, they are not goals, they are just dreams. And there is big difference between goals and dreams. Dreams are something that you’re thinking about, they are imaginary. Goals  are all about action, they have deadlines and they turn your dreams into reality.

SMART goals

So how should you set the goals? The most important thing is that the goals have to be SMART:

This is all you need to know. Just take a blank paper or notebook, sit in quiet place where you won’t be disturbed and think about everything you want to achieve this year. Write it down and don’t forget to get back to these goals next year in order to evaluate it.

Vision board

If you have already defined your goals and you want to work more on them, then it’s time to illustrate them visually and to make your own vision board. You might ask what vision board is. It’s a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on specific life goals. It’s any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life. In addition to images, the vision board can include words, phrases or sentences that affirm your intentions. The vision board might just be the most important thing you do for yourself this year. No matter what happens during some days, your vision board is a constant reminder of where you intend to be. So find pictures that represent or symbolize the experiences, feelings and possessions you want to attract to your life and place them to your board. Have fun with the process. Be creative. 🙂 And if you want, share your experience in the comments.

I do hope that this article will inspire and motivate you at least to define your goals. I wish you all the best for 2016. Have a fabulous year full of love, happiness, success and adventures!

Thank you for reading my blog in 2015 and I hope you’ll keep reading it also in 2016. Hugs and kisses! Love you all <3
