As you know I like discovering new places. In Mallorca it’s a bit complicated with the bus transport so that’s why it’s just easier to rent a car. I usually rent a car with Hipercar because it has reasonable prices and I had never had problem with them. Last time we paid 75€ for two days with full insurance (+6€ extra for second driver) which is really good price. In today’s post I would like to present you three places that we visited the first day – Porto Cristo, Portocolom and Caló des Moro.
Since we left at lunch time, our first stop was Porto Cristo where we decided to eat before we go to somewhere else.
Porto Cristo is a small fishing village on the east coast of Mallorca. There is a picturesque port which is actually a natural harbour. The marina is the most beautiful part of the village where many bars, shops, terraces and restaurants are situated. Next to the harbour there is also a nice urban beach which is usually very busy. Nevertheless, its main attraction are the Caves of Drach located just few minutes from the downtown. I visited the caves three years ago and I would definitely recommend to see it. You can find more information on its official website.
We went to the restaurant Quince which is situated at the port so it has very nice view. The food was very good but the service was very poor. Anyway, we didn’t spend there more time because we also wanted to go to Portocolom.
Portocolom is a traditional fishing village located on the east coast in the district of Felanitx. It has one of the best natural harbours in Mallorca. There is also one of the most beautiful and photographed lighthouse on the island. Moreover, it’s visible from any point of Portocolom which means it’s never out of sight.
In Portocolom we went to have a coffee and pancake in the sweet shop Creperia Gelateria Es Cucurutxo. It’s a place you shouldn’t miss. They offer a big variety of ice cream, pancakes and waffles. Everything was very tasty. After that we were walking along the port. It’s very nice and quiet area. If you want to spend a relaxing afternoon, go there, have a coffee and take a walk, you’ll like it for sure.
Our last stop that day was the beach Caló des Moro. It’s one of the beaches that takes your breath away. The water is crystal clear with the most beautiful turquoise shades. Caló des Moro is located 6 kilometres from Santanyi in the southeast corner of Mallorca. The beach is situated deep inside a bay with sheer cliffs. Access is not easy, first you need to leave your car on the parking lot and then you have to descend for about 10/15 minutes down a path that is directing you to the beach. It’s recommended to arrive to the beach early because it’s not very large and especially during the high season it gets very busy.
We arrived to the beach in the late afternoon and we were truly impressed by its beauty. We didn’t stay there for a long time as the sun was going down and we didn’t want to take the walk back in the dark. Nevertheless, we had enough time to walk around and enjoy the stunning views. So if you ever come to Mallorca, Caló des Moro is really must visit.
On the way back home we stopped for a dinner in the village L’Alqueria Blanca which I wouldn’t recommend for eating. There are just three restaurant, we chose the one on the main square called Sa Placa. The food was good, the service is poor and they also charge you extra money for “the cutlery” which was 2,50 € per person. So better to choose other place for having a dinner.
Anyway, to sum up, we visited three very nice places – two traditional fishing villages with natural harbours and one stunning beach. We had a great day with good food and much fun. The day after we went for another trip but I will share with you more in the upcoming post so you have something to look forward to!
